    I’m not christian but I believe vastly in humility as a tool toward empathy and understanding. It enriches my life and allows me to be more open-minded. Lots of people I know are generally hostile toward anything that could be interpreted as a challenge and take offense. Humility is a way to bring down their guard and give an avenue toward mutual understanding and betterment. Humility is tacking against the wind for me and it works wonders.

    "I just want to get better at making games and this is the most efficient way to do it" I felt that in my soul. We are driven by very similar things, aren't we? I took a very long hiatus from working on my game to hone my art and music skills and a lot of that process involved talking to other artists and musicians and exchanging tips and tricks. Everything in this video hit very close to home.

    If someone complements your talent or fortune and you say "It's nothing" or "It's not hard", you are in a way insulting that person for not being able to do or have it, you are not being humble. It's just an instance where downplaying yourself isn't being humble. But if someone says something like this, you can't really blame them, nor does it really matter.

    this! Agreed completely with Kaze. I always thought that kaze is the best at performance skills, dan gptv at visuals skills, and rovertronic at new ideas/gimmicks skills. And that's fine, instead of guarding their knowledge they could learn about each other to improve on their skills and create better romhacks for the community! Is a win win for all when putting ego aside, and sit and learn from others. The only part that i dont get it is why other game devs aspiring to make hackroms feel bad and want to give up when seeing talented guys like kaze and others, instead of feeling inspired to create something good. I think they dont need to be the best at something because probably there is always someone better at something, but to create a unique experience, like for example Chris Lillo with B3313, he is not the best at anything yet still he creates one of the best hackrom ever made in Mario 64.

    Oh I like the "post bad information and wait for people to correct you" It's the same if you want something done or made so you make a version of it and it will get the discussion rolling and other people will do it better than you. Then the thing you wanted to begin with actually comes into the world. It's then very useful not to attach your ego to it cause all you wanted was this thing to get into the world, not that anyone knows it was because of you.

  • @bs_blackscout
    @bs_blackscout 9 часов назад

    I think you mixed being humble and lacking confidence a bit but I do agree with being honest to oneself. Acknowledging the strengths of your work allows you to improve since you're not putting yourself down. If someone sees it differently they can respectfully disagree and engage in a healthy discussion as to why they do so. Both parties will then learn something in the process. Same goes for acknowledging faults and understanding where is room for improvement. Being too cocky about being good at things is also not healthy. In essence, Person A: "I made this game, core mechanics XYZ work really well but ABC need improvement". Person B: "I think C is fine and X needs tuning because it's unbalanced." Person A: "Hmm, yeah fair! Let's see what I can do then..." or "I disagre, I think my assessment is correct.

  • @TheGershon
    @TheGershon 11 часов назад

    Wholeheartedly agree with this, probably my favorite video of yours despite not really being about romhacking. I think the most important part of it is to just be honest, not only towards other people but also yourself. If you really think you're great at something, there's no reason why you shouldn't let it show. Thinking/knowing you're the best and acknowledging that you have room to grow are not incompatible with each other, and you shouldn't feel like an asshole as long as you're not arrogant about it and rubbing it in other people's faces. There are people who see that and feel personally attacked by it, but that's because they feel inadequate and don't know how else to cope with that feeling; the ideal response is to see you as a challenge and be competitive with you, which will lead to the both of you improving. Would like to pick your brain a bit, how would you go about thinking you're NOT the best? What do you say if you know you're objectively NOT great at something? To me, the obvious 'textbook' answer is that you should identify what areas you're lacking in and improve them (while also not slacking in getting better at what you're good at), but I'd be interested to see what you have to say about it.

    - Humility - Humility is not letting someone win or pretending not to care when you lose. It is not feigned ignorance or polite dishonesty. Humility is not a trick to gain approval, nor is it an abdication of your pride. Humility is a stand taken to the end with passion; an opinion that you choose and live by with conviction and integrity, but if shown to be in error in part or full, and that the truth not be on your side... you change your mind. And furthermore you admit it publicly and you learn from it internally. Never let passion to stand up for truth fade. Don't let desire for becoming right be outweighed by undeserved pride. Sincere pride, real humility, true integrity; they are one and the same. The true integrity is tough and admits its errors Value your sincerity enough to live your values Only then is real pride obtained or the admiration of anyone, whose opinion is worth a damn, gained.

    Well said 💯👍🏻 It's a matter of Ego. If we work on reducing our Ego to a healthy and balanced level, then we will be able to enjoy our successes, been proud and even feeling good about other people Achievements. To be too humble you'd need to hurt yourself, by destroying your Ego in a so low level (an unhealthy level). You might realise these things during the practice of profound Meditation 🙏🏻

    Humility isn’t thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less. To be humble is to focus on other people just as much if not more than you focus on yourself. It’s possible to recognize your own talents, while still remaining humble by not obsessing over them.

    Self deprecating comedy that's low key meant to insult others because the person is playing a role rather than expressing their own opinion (cough Stephen Colbert cough) is a great example of this fake humility. Another is asking a question with an obvious answer to your opponent, because you want to appear like you're listening and engaging, when really you should just make the point yourself. The issue is, when you call out these things, these people pretend like they have no idea what your'e talking about and play dumb. But at least then you know not to treat them as honest actors going forward.

    I think rather than trying to be humble, you should try your very best to understand and effectively communicate with the other person. Humility is just an old way to achieve that, but as you said Kaze, it can be quite inefficient at getting the good stuff done, and leading oneself to self improvement. And you can maintain a climate of basic human respect despite a less than pretty surface level of communications. Without basic mutual respect, things can just go completely off the rails, and nothing gets done, no one improves, or far worse. Linus Torvalds is a good example of someone that essentially is already with you on this point. He thinks he's one of, if not the best in low level kernel programming, willing to absolutely thrash trash contributions, but does concede when the other guy's idea/implementation is really good, and keeping basic respect in mind, don't want personal conflicts destroying the Linux project.
